Running completely out of charge — sometimes called “bricking” — leaves you stranded, similar to running out of gas. However, most EVs give you ample warning well in advance, and running out entirely is uncommon in practice because:
- The car’s navigation can route you to charging stations automatically
- Most drivers charge at home overnight and start each day with a full charge
- Range estimates are shown prominently on the dashboard at all times
If you do run out, roadside assistance services (AAA, your automaker’s service, or your insurance) can provide a mobile charge or tow you to the nearest charger.
