In most cases, yes, Tesla has opened much of its Supercharger network to other brands, and most major automakers have signed on. But “open” doesn’t mean every stall works with every EV, access depends on your specific brand, your connector, and which app you’re using.
What actually determines access
Three things need to line up for a non-Tesla EV to Supercharge:
- Your automaker participates in the program. Most major brands, Ford, GM, Rivian, Hyundai, Kia, and others, now offer some form of Supercharger access. A handful of automakers, notably Volkswagen Group (VW, Audi, Porsche), have not committed to this as of early 2026.
- You have the right connector. Either a native NACS port built into the car, or an official adapter if your EV uses a CCS1 port. Our post on what the NACS connector is covers this distinction in more detail.
- You’re using the correct app. Some automakers integrate Supercharger access directly into their own app; others require using the Tesla app with a payment method attached.
Not every Supercharger stall works
Only newer V3 and V4 Supercharger stalls, typically identifiable by a black collar around the connector, are open to non-Tesla vehicles. Some locations also have “Magic Dock” stalls, which have an integrated CCS1 adapter built in, letting CCS-equipped EVs charge without needing a separate adapter at all. Tesla’s own app filters for compatible stalls when you sign in as a non-Tesla driver.
A word of caution on adapters
If your EV needs an adapter, stick to one officially approved by your automaker rather than a generic third-party option. Automaker-approved adapters are tested for voltage, current, and communication with the charger; using an unapproved adapter can be unsafe and may void your vehicle’s warranty.
Does it cost the same as for Tesla owners?
Not always. Non-Tesla drivers often pay a somewhat higher per-kWh rate than Tesla owners at the same stall, and pricing can vary by time of day and location. The app you use to start the session will show pricing before you begin charging.
