Toyota is the world’s largest automaker and one of the pioneers of electrified vehicles — the Prius, launched in 1997, introduced millions of drivers to hybrid technology long before plug-in vehicles went mainstream. That deep hybrid experience now underpins Toyota’s growing lineup of plug-in electric vehicles.
Toyota’s electrified lineup spans both BEVs and PHEVs. The bZ4X is Toyota’s flagship all-electric SUV, while several models — including the RAV4 Prime and Venza — offer plug-in hybrid variants that deliver meaningful electric-only range alongside a gasoline engine for longer trips. The RAV4 Prime in particular has become one of the best-selling PHEVs in the U.S. thanks to its combination of electric range, cargo space, and available all-wheel drive.
Toyota vehicles use the CCS charging standard for DC fast charging on BEV models, with Level 1 and Level 2 home charging supported across both BEV and PHEV models. PHEV models charge on Level 1 and Level 2 only — DC fast charging is not supported on plug-in hybrid trims.
