Tesla pioneered the modern electric vehicle era and remains the benchmark that other automakers measure themselves against. Founded in 2003 and led to mainstream success by Elon Musk, Tesla proved that EVs didn’t have to be slow, short-range compromises — the Model S launched in 2012 with real-world range that left competitors years behind.

Today Tesla sells a focused all-BEV lineup spanning sedans, SUVs, and trucks. Every model charges on Tesla’s proprietary Supercharger network, one of the largest and most reliable fast-charging networks in the world, and all current models also support CCS charging at third-party stations. Over-the-air software updates mean Tesla vehicles regularly gain new features and efficiency improvements after purchase.

Tesla’s Autopilot driver-assistance system comes standard on every new vehicle, with the optional Full Self-Driving package available as an upgrade. The company builds its vehicles at Gigafactories in California, Texas, and internationally, keeping production largely in-house.
