Rivian

Rivian is an American electric vehicle manufacturer founded in 2009 and headquartered in Irvine, California, with its primary manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois. The company has carved out a distinctive niche in the EV market by focusing exclusively on adventure-oriented electric trucks and SUVs — a segment that was largely ignored by early EV manufacturers.
Rivian’s debut vehicles — the R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV — launched in 2021 and immediately set new benchmarks for electric off-road capability. Both vehicles are built on Rivian’s proprietary skateboard platform featuring a quad-motor setup, offering exceptional performance and genuine off-road credentials that appeal to outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers.
The company went public in 2021 in one of the largest IPOs in U.S. history, backed by major investors including Amazon, which has also commissioned Rivian to build 100,000 electric delivery vans for its logistics network.

Rivian has since expanded its lineup with the more affordable R2 SUV and the compact R3 — both designed to bring Rivian’s adventure DNA to a broader audience at lower price points. The brand operates its own charging network called the Rivian Adventure Network, featuring high-speed DC fast chargers at scenic and outdoor destinations across North America.

Rivian vehicles are sold directly through Rivian’s website and physical spaces, similar to Tesla’s direct sales model — no traditional dealerships.
