The Chevy Volt can get around 40 miles per charge but it has a gasoline generator that turns on automatically to take you as far as you need to go then get more gas then keep going.

That aside, however, Chevy still has the Spark EV listed as only being available to residents of Oregon and California.
As far as the Volt is concerned, you could easily do a 30 mile round trip with the Volt using only it's EV range (unless you are climbing some steep hills). In temperate weather (50-80) my range in my 2014 Volt has been consistantly around 55 miles on a 70 mile one way commute. All depends on terrain, temperature and driving habits.
