I live in the Niagara Region near Buffalo, NY. We have seen extreme temperatures this year (15 F) (2013-1014) and my i-MiEV is doing great! During the summer I use about 6 kWh of electricity to get to work or about 6 bars off my power meter. In the winter, I use between 7 and 8 bars or kWh off my power meter. I accomplish this by using the heat on its lowest setting which keeps the car fairly warm, not toasty but warm and the windows defrosted. I also use the auto setting on the HVAC controls, this cycles the heater on and off reducing the power drain on the battery. In addition, I delay my charging until I need the car which helps keep the battery pack warm and efficient and I garage the car as well. The next concern about driving in winter is traction, how does the car do in the ice and snow. The i-MiEV is surprisingly good in the winter, its equipped with Active Stability Control which works really well! I've never been able to lose control of my car even on purpose. There is 600 pounds of batteries underneath the car that keeps the car planted on the road and with the ASC you end up with a very confident and safe ride.
