It may be an annoyance but it's really intended to protect yourself from yourself. When you plug your L1 charger in, do you know what else is on that breaker? Most people don't. This is not usually the case with a L2 chargers which are almost always on an isolated circuit.

Charge it on L2 will preven this.
Get a Clipper Creek LCS 25 installed (only $600) and you won't have to worry about this.
