As previously answered, it depends on how consistent the driver and driving conditions are.
One thing I have noted is that it will respond fairly rapidly to hills, the local hills are around 1300ft or so, and climbing to the top will cause the range to drop dramatically, however it returns just as rapidly when you regen brake down the other side.
The estimate notes the driving conditions of up or downhill (probably through speed and power consumption) and readjusts accordingly. There may be some influence via the regen braking, I always drive in B to maximize it.
Short version: I've never been surprised.

It depends on how you drive, but it is very accurate. Usually to within a mile. The guage will vary demending on temperature. In colder weather the estimate will be lower, but I have never been surprized. I am amazed on how accurate it is.
Even the fuel consumption. On the odd ocassion that I fill up, the amount of fuel used is dead on with the pump resding when filling up. Usually within 1/10 to 2/10 of a litre.
Owned my volt for almost 2 years now, and have 37,000 KM on it. Do you think I drive it much?
